Having limited or unreliable access to a sufficient quantity of
affordable, nutritious food.
Preschool-aged children often fall through the gap of social services addressing food insecurity. We address the hunger and food insecurity for the age 5 and younger population who cannot access school free meal programs.
Each weekday, we deliver approximately 2,500 healthy meals to Houston’s hungriest preschool-aged children. When school is out, every child up to age 18 in these homes also receives a healthy meal from Kids’ Meals – up to 3,700 kids per day.
Every day in our community there are 88,740 children who may not know where their next meal is coming. That is 1 out of 4 preschoolers!
We are bridging the gap for those families who have little means of obtaining meals for their young children on a regular basis. We are the ONLY meals-on-wheels program
in the nation for poverty-stricken preschool children.
Our meals-on-wheels program concept targeting preschool-aged children originated in the early 1980’s. Kids’ Meals, as it exists today, was created in 2006. With the tremendous support of an established Board of Directors, Advisory Board, and community partners, Kids’ Meals has made significant progress towards building an organization that can reach our goal of ending childhood hunger in Houston.
