How can I help Kids' Meals?

There's a volunteer opportunity that helps you deliver hope to our youngest Houstonians!

  • Company volunteers- We love our corporate partners and have lots of easy ways for you to help- from simple donation drives to coming in as a team.  Contact volunteer@kidsmealshouston.org to find out more information on corporate volunteer opportunities.
  • Schools, religious and servious organizations- We are thankful for the many children who volunteer here every day to help other children- there are many ways to help-collect zip locks or decorate bags, come in to make sandwiches, or we partner with several VBS or educational programs who make meals at their locations.   • Kitchen Volunteer: Volunteers prepare sandwiches, pack lunches, and/or sort groceries. Monday - Friday, every third Saturday of the month (Saturdays fill up months in advance so please book ahead).   • Ripley House Delivery Volunteer: Volunteers will meet KM staff at the Ripley House to pick-up food supplies and then proceed to deliver meals to the children’s homes in their own vehicle. Volunteers can reserve one or up to five of the available routes. Each route will take less than an hour and half. (volunteers will meet staff at 4410 Navigation Blvd. 77011 at 9:30am). Volunteers will get a background check before proceeding with this option. Monday - Friday. Can I bring a group to volunteer or can I come as an individual?

How old do volunteers have to be to work with Kids' Meals?

We accept volunteers of any age to volunteer with us at our Ripley House location. Volunteers at our Garden Oaks center will need to be 8 years of age. 

Is there a registration for volunteers?

Yes, volunteers must register at http://kidsmealshouston.volunteermatters.org/.

Is there an orientation for volunteers?

Volunteers will be givin training and an orientation when they arrive.

What are the volunteer shifts? What are the hours for volunteers?

Kitchen volunteer shifts are from 9:00am-12pm. Ripley House deliver volunteer shifts begin at 9:30am. If you are requesting alternative volunteer time, please contact volunteer@kidsmealshouston.org.

What do I do if I have donations for Kids' Meals?

Please contact Whitney Easterling at 713-695-5437 to arrange the logistics of the pickups.

Can I get community service hours for volunteering?

Yes, please let the Kids' Meals staff know you are tracking your hours and forms will be provided for you. If you are looking to receive community service hours for court appointed service, please contact the office prior to scheduling your service time. 

Do I need a background check to volunteer?

If you are going to deliver a route in your own vehicle, you will need a background check. Please contact the office at 713-695-5437 to make arrangements.

What do I need to wear to volunteer?

Volunteers must wear closed toed shoes, NO jewelry (wedding bands are ok), and a hat (or a hair net will be provided for you. We follow strict health code guidelines and these rules will be enforced.

Can I just show up to volunteer?

All volunteers must schedule ahead of time to work in our facility. We are very limited in space and will not be able to accept walk-in volunteers.

Can I volunteer for special events?

Yes, of course. Contact our office or check the events calendar on our website or Facebook page to see what we have coming up.

Can I volunteer at my own facility?

Yes. We offer indiviuals to prepare lunch packs at their own facility. Please contact volunteer@kidsmealshouston.org for more information.
